| Visit to the Jicamarca Radio Observatory |
As part of the MST10 sightseeing activities, we are offering a visit to the Jicamarca Radio Observatory (JRO) while you stay in Lima. As most
of you know, JRO was the first incoherent scatter radar built for that purpose and remains as one of the most powerful radars for atmospheric
and ionospheric studies. Moreover, it was at JRO where the MST technique was conceived and tested (for more information about JRO, visit
http://jro.igp.gob.pe).
Depending on the participant's interest the visit could last a couple of hours or half a day. It takes about an hour by car from Lima to
JRO. Breakfast/lunch can be chosen at JRO facilities.
Working days at JRO are Monday to Thursday from 0800 to 1800 LT. MST10 workshop participants could arrange to visit Jicamarca anytime during
that period. Although all JRO scientific staff will be at the workshop between May 13-20, a visit can still be arranged during that period
and our engineering staff will be able to show the facilities. Depending on the number of interested visitors, a special visit can be arranged
between May 16-17. We think the best time to visit JRO would be right after the workshop since
there are plans to run a special MST experiment (CIELO-LEMMA) starting May 19th. Transportation from/to
Lima will be provided.
For those of you wishing to visit JRO, please contact Rocio Ferrel (rocio@jro.igp.gob.pe) or Gloria Chia
(gloria@jro.igp.gob.pe) before April 15th.
