This talk with show a number of early analog devices that were used as analysis tools incoherent scatter as well as for electrojet and equatorial Spread-F studies. Some were pretty sophisticated while others were quite crude.

On the occasion of celebrating the 40th anniversary of Jicamarca I shared my reminiscences about my brief engagement with Jicamarca, ca. 1974-1976, mentioning that it had been one the most satisfying periods of my life and it played a decisive role in determining the future course of my life. Ten years later, today, this statement has not lost a bit of its truth. It is gratifying to realise that there are many more like me that owe much of their fortunes to Jicamarca. The ultimate recognition goes to the founding fathers whose initiatives and visions made it all possible To theirs and our amazement, I would believe, the creative force with which they endowed Jicamarca is still alight and shall be for many years to come. On this occasion, one more time, I will share some of my experiences at Jicamarca that have left an enduring imprint in my memory and pay tribute, again, to the inventors, founders and builders, present and gone, for having created this great, world-prestigeous observatory, and also to those who have kept it and to those who still keep it that way.
JRO and the Aerospace Industry in Peru
This presentation contains a summary of my professional experience at the Jicamarca Radio Observatory
(JRO), where I worked as Investigator and Chief of Special Projects for 10 years. I will mention the
most important technology projects for which I was Chief or Responsible at JRO:
1) MST Radar
for the Machu-Picchu Antarctic Station;
2) JULIA - Jicamarca Unattended Long Term Investigations of
the Atmosphere;
3) VHF Radar on board the Research Vessel "Humboldt";
4) Point-to-point VHF
Communications using dispersion on the Equatorial Electrojet;
5) Coast Surveillance Radar for
the Peruvian Navy;
6) NASA-PERSEUS - Peruvian Rocket Sounding Experiments for Upper-Atmosphere
Studies
Besides, I will present a brief description of my activities at the private business
sector, where I founded and currently I am the Manager of a technology company, which has been awarded
by the scientific and business community as a pioneer of the development of aerospace industry in Peru.
In few years, we have got unprecedented success in the areas of electronics and radar technology in our
country; we have exported our radars to Europe, USA and Brazil. An important part of these activities
have been or are performed with the collaboration of JRO.
I will present some pictures and short
descriptions of the following activities or projects:
7) Mobile Rocket and Radar Observatory - MORRO;
Tromso - Norway;
8) Air Surveillance radar for the Peruvian Air Force;
9) VHF Radar for the Institute
of Space Research - INPE; Belem - Brazil.
10) Technology for Air Traffic Control and Air Traffic Management.
25 Years at the Jicamarca Radio Observatory
This will be a personal remembrance of my experiences with Jicamarca during by student days, throughout my early career, and as the current Cornell PI for the project. Some of the new observing modes that were developed over the last 25 years will be discussed, including JULIA modes, the bistatic experiment, oblique observations, radar imaging, and alternating codes and full profile analysis. Many of the new experiments were facilitated by the addition of new antennas and other hardware at Jicamarca, and so this will be highlighed as well. Some of the most promising new efforts now underway, including electron beam steering, T/R switch upgrades, and the JIREP program, will be singled out for special attention.
